The Land of the Dead and Barely Living.

Plentywood, where my Mom, Uncle, and Grandma already bought their plot of land next to my older ancestors including grandpa Steve. I haven’t been back in a long time, not since his funeral in 2020.

This series explores Plentywood, MT on medium formate film. Over the summer I got the chance to stay with my grandma and experience this town after all those years away. Plentywood has a deep history of my family including where my grandma grew up on her grandfathers farm and the land in which my mom and dad met and went to school together and all of this is present on the archives in the bottom floor of the library.

Exploring this town, I found environment different from the expectation of what Montana intails. Everyone knows everyone, and when visitors come to town, they’re immediately placed by lineage. If you’ve got blonde hair and blue eyes and are in your early twenties, you must be Jill and Scott’s daughter, right? Yep, there are three of us, and even though the rest of the world swears we’re triplets, everyone here knows exactly who’s who.
